Why Juicing is Beneficial
Juicing is one of my favorite ways to get in extra nutrients from fruits and veggies – especially if my gut is feeling off. This is because when you juice it is removing the fiber which allows your body to absorb nutrients faster! This is extra important when you are struggling with gut issues and your body is having a hard time digesting/absorbing food. That being said, don’t go too crazy with fruit. The issue with some juices is when they are packed with fruit (aka packed with sugar) when you juice a ton of fruit you are stripping down that fiber which slows absorption, causing your blood sugar to rise. With veggies there isn’t as much of an issue but with fruit it can cause problems. I tend to do only veggies or add in a small amount of fruit. This green detox juice is a great way to support gut and overall health! I use this juicer and absolutely love it.

How to Make
Step 1
Prep the produce for detox green juice. First, make sure you wash all of the produce. Then remove leafy green part of kale from stem, cut cucumber into large pieces, remove core from apple and cut into large pieces, cut rind off lemon and halve or quarter it, peel the ginger root, cut leaves and stems off of fennel then quarter the bulb.
Step 2
Add fruits and veggies to juicer. Slowly add the fruits and veggies to your juicer! Allow the juicer to fully run through the produce then let drip for a few seconds to ensure it’s done.
Step 3
Enjoy! Once the juicer is finished juicing you can enjoy your detox green juice! I like placing mine in the fridge for 15 minutes to cool it slightly.
Expert Tips
- To save time when making this detox green juice, prep the veggies ahead of time. I like to prep mine the night before so in the morning I can just throw it in the juicer and have my juice ready in minutes.
- Have fun with it! Different produce has different benefits so you can play around based on what you are looking for. To support detox I always add in celery and dark leafy greens. To support digestion I love adding in lemon, ginger, and fennel. The green apple adds a little sweetness.
- Don’t go too crazy with fruit. The issue with juices is when they are packed with fruit (aka packed with sugar!) when you juice a ton of fruit you are stripping down that fiber which slows absorption, causing your blood sugar to rise. I tend to do only veggies or add in a small amount of fruit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don’t have a blender?
While a juicer is incredibly nice to make juice, I understand some people don’t have them. You can also make this in a blender. Place all ingredients except the lemon in the blender in the order listed (you may need to reduce the amount as well)
- 1 cup water
- Celery chopped
- Kale
- Cucumber roughly chopped
- Green apple roughly chopped
- Fennel chopped
- Small thumb of ginger peeled
Blend at a low speed until the ingredients start to combine, then blend on medium high for 2 minutes (or until completely blended). I use a Vitamix and the juice turns out great, but any blender should work well enough! Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag or through a sieve over a large bowl pushing down the contents with a rubber scraper until all the juice is extracted and the pulp is relatively dry. Add in the lemon juice and enjoy over ice immediately.
How do I store this detox green juice?
While it is best served fresh, you can store in a glass jar with a lid for 1-2 days. I wouldn’t consume after 2 days.
What if I don’t like fennel?
If you don’t like fennel (or any of the ingredients) you can omit it or sub for another veggie.
