  • Red onion. 1/2 a large red onion, chopped. You can sub with yellow onion.
  • Black beans. 1 can of black beans, rinsed and drained. You can sub with pinto beans.
  • Jalapeno. 1/2 a jalapeno, deseeded and chopped adds a little heat. You can omit.
  • Salsa. 1 cup of salsa or about 12 oz is used to give flavor to the dish. Use whatever salsa you prefer.

Expert Tips

  • Don’t overcook the turkey. Cook until browned all the way through. If it starts to dry out, add a splash of water.
  • Add in the tortilla chips and then sprinkle on the cheese. You don’t want to keep cooking the skillet with the chips in it for too long are they will become more soggy and less crunchy. You only need to cook until the cheese is melted (about 2-3 minutes).
  • The chips I use are extra firm and crunchy – keep in mind that some tortilla chips will be thinner and offer less of a crunch. Don’t overcook them in the skillet to make them soggy.
  • For best results, serve turkey taco bowl hot, with pickled onions, avocado, cilantro, and a dollop of greek yogurt.
  • This turkey taco bowl is naturally gluten free IF you use corn tortilla chips. Flour tortilla chips will contain gluten.
